Red Yarn (aka Andy Furgeson) is a Texas-born, Oregon-based family performer who weaves music and puppetry into high-energy shows for all ages. With his engaging performances, rowdy folk-rock recordings, and playful music videos, this red-bearded bard reinvigorates American roots music traditions for younger generations.
With traditional and original songs that blend folk, rock’n’roll, country and blues, Red Yarn’s sound is both rooted and modern. His shows are a raucous, inclusive celebration of the multicultural musical heritage of the USA. As Red rambles through the landscapes of American folklore, he introduces his “critter” friends – lovable, handmade puppets – along the way.
In this special family band performance, Red Yarn, his wife & singing partner Ms. Jessie, their two musical children, and bassist Oscar Murden will perform a mix of revved-up folksongs and roots rock originals, including favorites from their most recent album, "The Get-Together." In between songs, Red Yarn's critter puppets will provide comic relief & social-emotional skill-building. Children and their families will be singing, dancing & experiencing the joy of community at this interactive music & puppet show!
Red Yarn & his family band have performed at Austin City Limits Festival, South by Southwest, Pilgrimage Music Fest, Stagecoach Country Music Festival, Wolf Trap National Park, Symphony Space, Pickathon, Northwest String Summit, and libraries and children’s museums across the country. Accolades for Red Yarn’s albums include NAPPA Gold, Parents’ Choice, and Fids & Family Music Awards, and frequent play on SiriusXM Kids Place Live. Red Yarn has been voted “Portland’s Best Kindie Performer” for seven years straight in the PDX Parent Reader Favorites poll.
